What Is That?

I can’t remember which scholar/teacher/speaker etc… who originally told me this story, but when I saw this video it brought back the reminder of how we forget how much our parents have done for us. I’m so happy my friend sent this to me, it’s beautiful, I guess nowadays visuals work better than stories. Whatever the case may be please take juss 5 minutes out of your insanely packed day to watch it, trust me its worth every minute of it:

Take care inshaAllah, and go give your parents a hug! Unless if your stuck in a dorm, or stuck in some deserted island, or juss somewhere that you can’t get to them and physically hug them then call them, or the best of all- make du’a for them! :)

[p.s. Exams are still not done, du'as please!]

Are Your Gadgets Making You Sick?

Admit it, we are way too hooked on so many little new technology gadgets, hey I’m guilty too. You know that really annoying page that pops up when you sign on to aim and you usually try to close it immediately because 98% of the time its full of haraam-ness? Well today I found something rather interesting, an article called ‘Are Your Gadgets Making You Sick?’ Some of the things I knew about, but then there were some that juss made my mouth drop and go, huh?

1. Sore Thumbs: Typing on your Blackbery-or any other similar cell phone. Hamdulillah for my cheap little motorola phone that has a very limited amount of text messages :)

2. Acne and Rashes: Cell Phone use, the site actually said that your cell phone can have more bacteria than your toilet seat, uhm ew! Hamdulillah for us hijaabi’s we’re covered most of the time ;)

3. Hand Pain: Typing on the keyboard too much. I used to get this, but my friend told me about some simple little “hand exercises” that helps a lot, sounds corny but it really does work, you can probably google or you tube it.

4. Poor Vision: Computer Screens, considering that sometimes I can’t even see clearly through my contacts or glasses, I’m gunna throw my laptop as far away as I can from my eyes!

5.  Addiction: The Internet, we all know about this, we juss have to know how to limit it. Pointer one: make a set amount of time and try to stick to it-sounds easy, but it really is hard, inshaAllah we’ll get the hang of it.

6.  Low Sperm Count: Cell Phones, no comment.

7.  Seizures, Blood Clots and Death: Video Games, this is ridiculous! Hamdulillah that my parents never bought us any game systems and that my youngest brother only has a DS that is dying and he barely uses. I’m sure after I tell him about this he will limit it even more ;)

You can click on each link to learn more about them, I juss didn’t have time to do a better re-cap of them.

Take care inshaAllah and please, DU’AS! Finals are here and procrastination seems to following it…

Discover the Beauty

Tonight I went to a NYIT event with Br. Nouman Ali Khan, unfortunately I missed the beginning but he ended his speech with a very nice idea. He told us to that one person may walk by and see something on the ground and think, ‘Oh it’s juss a rock,’ and then another person may walk by the same thing and start unearthing the rock and instead they discover that it is a diamond. We have been overlooking, underestimating the Qur’an for so long. We need to sit down and realize the beauty that is within the Qur’an, take some time out and unearth the beauty that is in the Qur’an! It’s quite possible that I have totally ripped that apart, the way Br. Nouman said it  it was really beautiful and sadly I don’t have an audio clip or anything. But inshaAllah you get the jist of it and have a little something to think about.

I’m gunna excuse myself ahead of time if I appear to be MIA, finals are coming up and much much much MUCH du’as are needed, not juss for me but for everyone! [please note the slight emphasis on much and everyone]

Take care inshaAllah and du’as.
