I came across this little blurb and thought it was a very clever idea. It’s very short and to the point, read it and see what you think of it. Being a New Yorker, we do move way too fast and we should take time out to notice more details and to especially notice the people that we come into contact with daily:
Most Important Question
During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop
quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the
questions, until I read the last one: ‘What is the first name of
the woman who cleans the school?” Surely this was some kind of joke.
I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired
and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper,
leaving the last question blank. Before class ended, one student
asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.
Absolutely, said the professor. “In your careers you will meet many
people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if
all you do is smile and say hello”. I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I
also learned her name was Dorothy.
Take care inshaAllah and please du’as!

SubhanAllah, a beautiful reminder.
Sometimes we totally lose sight of the way of our nabi sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallam, and get caught up in the mix of things.
And this in fact is something really ordinary compared to the way of our Prophet sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam who loved the poor and ate with them. People who clean institutions aren’t even usually poor, and yet we still don’t take the time to get to know them. Talk about deeply embedded arrogance that we just let seep into our hearts. May Allah forgive us and turn our hearts upon goodness.
Jazakillah khair.
