“Where you live should not decide whether you live or die”

I really don’t like/have no opinion on Bono, but I do like this speech of his.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that it can not be done.”

oh IB History

In our “intense” history class all we’ve talked about this year is communism, the class isn’t that bad, juss the approach that the teacher takes is a bit insane, anyway today we randomly started talking about the Simpson’s, specifically about the clip below. Its a good humor relief if your a history person, or if your a suffering IB kid :)

“Nobody pays attention to this generation…”

“Nobody pays attention to this generation, except to recruit them.”-Khader Fayyad, 46

“A Palestinian teenager gazed at the ruins of his family home in Beit Hanun, northern Gaza. Much of the work available for young people here is in either disorganized security forces or armed militias.”

We really never do appreciate what we have, do we? I’m speaking from experience, recently my own hypocrisy has come out and it was until others brought it to my attention. As I look back at these past couple of weeks it makes me feel so shallow knowing that I got so upset and angry over something like college, and then I look around the world where there are people who have nothing at all. Kids who are trying to survive, and then here there are kids who whine about not getting the toy that they want. In other places teenagers strive to get an education, and then here teenagers complain about not getting into a college that is good enough for them or not getting into their first choice; or they refuse to attend a college because they have been blinded by their ego that they have built up over the years. (Once again through experience.) I guess whenever we are presented with a hard task, or whenever we are in an unhappy situation we must not cry, whine, nor get angry but we should do something much simpler and much less stressful: look down, think of those who have less than you and think if you would be able to survive a day in their shoes? Life goes by fast, but through the ups and downs we should relax, be patient, wait it out, and remember that everything happens for a reason.

Pretty Day

Today was hamdulillah such a pretty day. I was driving and the window was down and the breeze juss felt so good on my face, it put me in such a good mood :) Personally, I love winter I would chose it over summer or spring; but there are certain things that I love about spring and summer- spring training :) baseball season:) I mean what more is there to say? As soon as the weather gets nice the more I want to slack off and just sit and watch my Yankees; so far there doing pretty good- I just hope it stays that way, inshallah it will this year. Invisible Children

This has been on my blog roll for quite some time and it’s an issue that no one can simply overlook. Invisible Children is a non-profit organization that is helping the children in Northern Uganda. The Invisible Children organization also started a campaign called Schools for Schools; the Schools for Schools program creates a partnership between American schools and Ugandan schools. My school has decided to join the Schools for Schools program. When ever me and some friends go to people and try to get some donations it discourages us more to hear the people say that they don’t even know what it is. Below is the trailer for the documentary. Personally, after watching the whole documentary I felt it was pretty hard to simply juss brush off the situation, or forget about it.

More Info. :

In Northern Uganda, children walk long distances every night from refugee camps to towns where they can sleep safely for the night. They are trying to escape abduction from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) which has been waging a rebellion against the Ugandan government for merely 20 years. the children are being kidnapped and forced to fight in the guerrilla war that is tearing apart the country. This terrorist parliamentary group routinely mutilates, tortures, and rapes civilians. The force is made up child soldiers, as young as 8 years of age, who are taken from their homes, brainwashed and desensitized, and forced into a life of brutality and violence. Once abducted, any educational prospects or future, for that matter, are lost and they undergo training in “the bush”, coming deadly fighters.

***[In my opinion] the video below is graphic***

“This is unacceptable to me, it is unacceptable to our country, and it’s not going to continue…”

Bush intervenes in army scandal

President Bush has intervened in a scandal over the way wounded American soldiers were treated after they returned home from Iraq or Afghanistan. In a radio address on Saturday, Mr Bush will say he is deeply troubled by the treatment of some military veterans in a Washington medical centre.

He is forming a cross-party commission to oversee how they have been handled.

Army Secretary Francis Harvey and the medical centre’s commander resigned over the allegations.

The move follows critical reports in the US media about the care of troops wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq at Washington’s Walter Reed hospital.

The Washington Post said last week that some of the soldiers lived in buildings infested with rodents and cockroaches.

‘Deserve the best care’

In his radio address, already released on the White House website, Mr Bush will say the treatment of some wounded veterans is unacceptable.

“These servicemen and women deserve the thanks of our country, and they deserve the best care our nation can provide,” he will say, according to the text.

“That is why I was deeply troubled by recent reports of substandard conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.”

He will add that most staff at the centre care deeply about the troops and work day and night to help them, but some veterans have experienced problems with bureaucracy and living conditions.

“This is unacceptable to me, it is unacceptable to our country, and it’s not going to continue,” he will say.

The Washington Post newspaper claimed in a series of articles that conditions at Walter Reed, the most famous veterans’ hospital in the US, were poor.

Outpatients lived in rat-infested rooms and bureaucracy got in the way of those trying to provide help to often badly injured soldiers, the articles reported.

The BBC’s Justin Webb in Washington says that America’s wounded veterans are regarded by most people in the country as truly heroic, so the fall-out has been considerable.

Defence Secretary Robert Gates, who announced the resignation, said that he was “concerned that some do not properly understand the need to communicate to the wounded and their families that we have no higher priority than their care”.

“Our wounded soldiers and their families have sacrificed much and they deserve the best we can offer,” he added.

For many Americans it is a shock to discover that the men and women they care so deeply about have been so badly let down, our correspondent says.

Mr Harvey’s resignation came a day after the head of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Maj Gen George Weightman, was fired.

Mr Gates was said to be angry at the way the army had handled the original allegations.
