Muhammad al-Durrah
October 1, 2006
Do you know Muhammad al-Durrah? Yes you do, we all do. Actually most do not know him by name, but we all have seen the images of him. It was actually on this day; Septermber 30th 2000.
The images of 12 year old Muhammad al-Durrah were flying all over the world. By these images, the whole world began to become more awake, the fear on the face of this little boy began to creep into our hearts and make us more aware of our surroundings. These famous images that are all over the world, that everyone recognizes as the boy and the father in the Gaza strip. Don’t forget Muhammad al-Durrah because he is one of the few faces, one of the few faces that got a name , one of the few children whose name actually got out there, one of the few who can be recognized by name, Muhammad al-Durrah is one of many that have been murdered.
It saddens me that our Ummah can recognize images of artists from 50 cent to Shakira, they can even give you ridiculous amounts of information about them from their favorite color, or their life style, I had a student tell me that 50 cent is an important figure int here life because “dey been hustlin eva since theyz b a youngin tryna survive them hoods.” (Yes listening to little kids thinkning that they “are mad gangstat yo” is quite interesting) It saddens me to see how that these are the things that the future generations of our Ummah are paying attention to. But how about these images…..

Anything besides, ‘Oh that’s sad’? We should recognize these people. We should know that this poor little boy is named Muhammad al-Durrah. That this little boy had dreams just like every other little boy in the world. That this little boy loved the game of soccer, and had dreams to get into a pro-soccer team. That this little boy was all ways being encouraged by his mother to pay attention to his studies and one day he will have a great position and make a difference in the world. We should tell the story of this little boy and how his life was cut short. How his little dreams got cut off. His dreams of being a soccer star never got completed because he got murdered. How he is remembered by friends and family as, “He is now a star in Heaven.” Have you realized how the world has so many negative influences, so many things are just going wrong; when are the adults going to put their foot down fot the sake of the children of the world? When are they going to realize that all of our actions and or mistakes are impacting our future, the children. Face it, the people that are having fun blowing up countries, torturing people, creating more suffering, more conflicts, are not going to live forever, and the children that are witnessing all of this and survive, how do you think all of this will impact their out look on life? Yeah a bit of a scary thought there huh?
But jus imagine, imagine if this is your last year. Imagine if this is your last Ramadan. Imagine if this is you last week. Imagine if this is your last day! How will you be remembered by those who are around you? What will you be remembered for? What will most likely be the last thing that you might be doing, will it be something that you will be rewarded for? Something you’ll be proud of?
Imagine if each day is your last and make it each worth it, and Du’aa each day that you have not done anything wrong. But don’t panic, anything wrong that you may do, (and remember we are all human) what ever bad that may be done by you, try to make up for it by immediately doing something good. Try to all ways remain cheerful and be happy around those who are around you. AllahuAllam they can be the last ones you may be around and you definitely would not want the last people that you may be around to be offended by you or be upset iwht you, would you? Just remember that no one lives forever. Apparently there are many people in this world that have a hard time getting this concept through their thick heads. But just try this simply for a day and see how this thought actually does hold you back on a lot of things. For a day try to keep this thought in the back of your head, “What if today is my last day, what if this is my last moment,” you may be surprised how this may impact what your thoughts on what your next action may or may not be….

Who will weep for Muhammad
Young Muhammad, a twelve year old, his life ahead of him
Blasted into eternity, at the hand of a sniper’s whim
‘Shoot not’ screamed Jamal as they took refuge from the crossfire
Even the angels weep for Muhammad sing the palestinian choir
‘For the love of God protect me Baba’, who can forget this utterance
For young angelic Muhammad there was to be no second chance
Immortalised by the great wonder of modern technology
Millions worldwide still await an impending apology
The camera shutter whirs, click, click, could he have fled?
Moments later a fatal bullet, Muhammad is dead
Physically yes, but alive in my heart
I couldn’t say goodbye Muhammad, you were too quick to depart
In memory of Muhammad Al Durrah
Muhammad Emdadur Rahman
