SAT’s

Don’t you hate the SAT’s? Considering I am still in high school, and specifically those scores are a huge factor to where I may or may not get into college, I personally hate them. They seem so pointless to me, why do you judge a student so much according to one test when there are so many other things that they should look in depth of. Like something they continuously did through out the years, if they had a job throughout the years, volunteer work, actual school grades, and maybe more teacher recommendations. The other factor that colleges should take into more consideration is that, what if that student isn’t wealthy? Kids who are wealthy have the opportunity to go to all of those expensive prep classes and they claim that it doesn’t do anything, I don’t think that you can go to any class and not get anything out of it, it’ll probably benefit you in some way. And that extra benefit (no matter how big or small) that they have is unfair for those kids who can’t afford that. But lately according to some articles in The New York Times, we see that colleges are beginning to be a little more I dunno… sympathetically..?

At a time when many elite colleges have expressed interest in recruiting more low-income students, the number of students from families earning $30,000 or less who took the SAT fell by more than 13 percent, to 183,317, while the number from families earning $100,000 or more rose 8 percent, to 225,869.

Now there are over 700 colleges and universities that are “test-optional”.

We hope that now that there are more test-optional schools, students will think about not taking it, and putting their time and money into other activities, like music or writing or community service,” said Jane B. Brown, vice president for enrollment at Mount Holyoke, which dropped the SAT requirement in 2001. “We hope they will have more interesting lives.

I always thought that the SAT’s were juss a whole thing to get more money, well I still think that. I mean come on its so much money for the registration, and then they offer all them classes which is huge other amount, and then of course the books and stuff. Yeah it stinks. I would love it if they would get rid of it, and do it fast cuz I’m graduating this year and that would really help me with my college applications :)

Sure, all the kids who get SAT’s over 700 have real academic strengths, said William Hiss. But can you say that all the kids who get under 600 don’t, that they won’t do well?

Human intelligence and ambition is more complex, more multifaceted, than any standardized testing system can capture, Mr. Hiss said.

See it’s the little things like that that make me quite happy :)
